Our Cost of Living
Relief Plan
We know many Canberrans are doing it tough right now – it’s a pressure so many are feeling across Australia.
That’s why we’re extending energy bill relief for households and making public transport free on Fridays.
It’s why we’re incentivising local GPs to bulk bill more Canberrans and providing trainees and apprentices with cash payments.
And it’s why we’re doubling free three-year-old preschool for families.
These are progressive, practical and proven ways to ease the cost of living, and we’ll keep listening and working with Canberrans to deliver more relief across our city.

$800 Energy Bill Relief
Labor will continue providing an $800 energy bill rebate to households doing it tough.
It'll help around 44,000 households - that's one in five households across the territory.
It’s real energy relief, right now - and we'll deliver it every year.
And it's in addition to $300 for every household from Federal Labor.

Fare Free Fridays
We're making public transport free every Friday.
So whether you catch the bus or jump on the light rail, under Labor you won't pay a cent.
It'll mean more Canberrans using public transport and more money in their pocket too.
We'll start it as a one year trial, and it'll save commuters hundreds of dollars across the year.

$500 For Trainees & Apprentices
We're already supporting local trainees and apprentices with a $250 payment right now.
And we'll double it next year, providing another $250 payment to support them even more.
Because we know when you're studying a trade, it's hard to earn enough to live on.
And we want to make sure Canberrans can get the skills they need, for the jobs they want - without costs being a barrier.

More Bulk Billing
Labor will incentivise local GPs to bulk bill more Canberrans, more often.
With a new $11 million fund, we'll financially support new bulk billing practices to open, while helping existing bulk billing practices to expand.
At the same time, we'll focus on increasing bulk billing rates for children across our city.
It's all about helping families with the cost of living, while making sure every kid in Canberra can get the care they need, close to home.

Doubling Free 3-Year-Old Preschool
Labor will double free three-year-old preschool to two days per week.
It means families are saving around $2600 a year.
And it means our littlest Canberrans are getting the best start in life too.
It's progressive, practical and proven - and it's what Labor governments deliver.

Free School Camps
No student should have to miss out on a school camp because of the cost.
And no parent should have to choose between paying for a camp or paying the bills.
That’s why Labor will cover the cost for every student at public primary schools to go on camp to Birrigai.
It'll mean no kid in Canberra misses out, and every kid gets a great education.

Cutting Stamp Duty
We know it's hard to save up for a deposit.
So we're making it easier for Canberrans by cutting stamp duty.
It'll mean if you're a first home buyer, pensioner or you're purchasing off-the-plan - you won't pay a cent on stamp duty.
It's all part of Labor's plan to make housing more affordable.
