30,000 More Homes by 2030
Canberrans want more homes to build, buy and rent.
And that’s why a re-elected Barr Labor Government will deliver 30,000 more homes by 2030.
From new suburban housing to well-designed townhouses and duplexes in existing suburbs, Labor will deliver more housing choice right across Canberra.
Our plan includes the renewal of local shops with new investment to support additional housing above them – which will mean more homes close to local services.
And we know saving up to buy a home is a big challenge.
That’s why we’re making housing more affordable by removing stamp duty for first home buyers, pensioners and off the plan purchases. We’ve cut stamp duty every year since 2012, and now we’ll remove it entirely. It’ll mean no matter your income or the value of the property, you won’t pay a cent in stamp duty.
And when it comes to public housing, Canberra has the second highest density of public housing of any jurisdiction in Australia. It’s twice the national average, and it means more Canberrans have a place to call home when they need it most.
It’s a record we’re proud of, and it’s one we’ll continue to build on with further announcements throughout the campaign.
As more and more people choose to call our city home, Labor will continue delivering the housing and infrastructure Canberrans need, while keeping the green spaces we know and love.
It’s all part of our progressive, practical and proven plan to deliver more homes – right across Canberra.
Because every Canberran deserves a place to call home.
