Labor to maintain strong ACT public service
As our city grows, a re-elected Labor Government will continue to grow the ACT’s public services, providing more secure jobs for more Canberrans.
In this term of Government, Labor has strengthened the ACT public service and improved the safety and conditions of workers across the ACT.
We established the Insourcing Taskforce and successfully transitioned thousands of privately-employed healthcare workers to the public sector.
We also established the offence of industrial manslaughter in the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Act and provided addition protections for workers from psychosocial hazards.
Labor remains steadfast in our commitment: essential public services will never be privatised under a Labor Government. Labor will not outsource jobs or cut essential services necessary for our growing city.
We will keep public services in public hands because we know it’s better for the community and provides secure employment opportunities.
Where services are best delivered by community providers or Aboriginal-controlled organisations, we will partner closely with them to ensure that all Canberrans, including our most vulnerable, have access to the services and support they need.
We know the Liberals' track record - they privatise public assets, they cut essential services and offer lower wage increases. Already the Liberals are cutting around $1 billion from Territory revenue over the next four years and recently, in the Legislative Assembly, the Opposition Leader has called for an audit to pave the way for the public service cuts necessary to make up this deliberate revenue shortfall.
Canberrans can trust that Labor will always put workers, our public services and the community first.
It’s all part of our progressive, practical and proven plan for Canberra.
