Free school camp for public school students
No student should have to miss out on a school camp because of the cost, and no parent should have to choose between paying for a school camp or paying the bills.
That’s why a re-elected Labor Government will fund one grade level at every public primary school to go on camp at Birrigai.
Schools will be able to choose which year level participates in the free camp based on the needs of their students, teachers and parents.
This will save Canberra families hundreds of dollars and give their children a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience.
We anticipate that this program will save a family with two children around $400 and increase equity in participation in memorable extracurricular experiences for our city’s kids.
If re-elected ACT Labor will roll out the free school camp program from the 2025 school year.
This is in addition to the range of programs we’re already providing for Canberra families in the public school system. From free 3-year-old preschool, a Chromebook for every public secondary school student and now a free school camp - we’re helping tens of thousands of Canberra families with their everyday education expenses.
Labor will always invest more to ensure that every local school is a great school, and that no child in Canberra is left behind.
It’s all part of our progressive, practical and proven plan for Canberra.
