Expanding access to free period products
Labor has always fought for the rights and opportunities of women in the ACT.
In our last term, we delivered real change. We made medical and surgical abortions free. We worked to support more women back into the workforce and provided record investment into our response to domestic and family violence.
A re-elected Labor Government will expand access to free period products across the ACT, to include public libraries, sports pavilions and more ACT Government facilities.
This will ensure essential period products are easily available, helping to end period poverty in the ACT.
This builds on the groundbreaking legislation introduced by Labor MLA Suzanne Orr in 2023, making the ACT the second place in the world to enshrine free period products in law.
This is just one example of the practical and progressive actions laid out in ACT Labor’s Women’s Plan—outlining how a Labor Government will improve women’s health services, expand job opportunities, and enhance the safety and wellbeing of every woman and girl in the ACT.
It’s all part of our practical, progressive and proven plan for Canberra.
