Expressions of Interest - National Complaints Panel

Description

The Australian Labor Party is harmonising its approach to handling complaints under its Code of Conduct, including complaints of sexual harassment, bullying and discrimination.

As part of this process, the Party will be establishing a new Complaints Panel at the National level, which will be responsible for determining sanctions in response to substantiated breaches of the Code of Conduct. The Panel will consist of three members, who will be responsible for determining sanctions on a rotational basis.

Qualifications

We are seeking expressions of interests from suitable Party members to sit on the new Complaints Panel

Suitable Party members:

  • must not hold public office; and
  • must not be on any Branch committee or the National Executive.

It is desirable that Panel members meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • be a life member of a Branch, or a party elder;
  • current or former legal practitioner with at least 5 years post admission experience; or
  • experience in trauma informed decision making.

The proposed process has strict timeframes for resolution of complaints, and any applicant must demonstrate they have the time and availability to action and respond to complaints promptly.

All Panel members will be required to undergo training on trauma informed responses to allegations of sexual harassment, bullying and harassment, and on the detail of the new policies, relevant procedures and documentation as a condition of appointment and before hearing any matters.

Application

The members of the National Complaints Panel will be appointed by the National Executive. Appointments will be made based on the skills, qualifications and experience of applicants, and will also consider the diversity of the panel as a whole.

If you are interested in sitting on the National Complaints Panel, please submit an expression of interest addressing the criteria above to [email protected].

If you have any questions in relation to the expression of interest process, please contact [email protected].
