Zero Interest Loans to Boost Jobs and Cut Bills

August 03, 2020

More Canberra families will be able to access the benefits of cheaper and sustainable energy under a re-elected ACT Labor Government.

ACT Labor has today committed to create and protect hundreds of jobs in the renewable energy sector by offering zero interest loans for rooftop solar panels, household battery storage and hot water heat pumps to make Canberra households more sustainable.

This $150 million commitment is one of the most significant investments in clean energy in the ACT’s history, and will create and protect hundreds of jobs for Canberra into the future.

We believe all Canberrans should have the opportunity to benefit from cheaper household energy bills and make their homes more sustainable.

The new policy will offer zero-interest loans between $2,000 and $15,000 to help with the upfront costs of these important investments.

An average ACT household could expect to save thousands of dollars over 10 years when installing rooftop solar, household battery storage and a heat pump.

Our zero-interest loans scheme will also create and protect hundreds of local jobs over the next decade, at a time when our city needs it most.

Now more than ever, we need a government that Canberrans can trust to protect local jobs and support our economy. Canberra’s economy is worth over $40 billion and supports around 220,000 jobs.

Our clean energy investments are already powering the ACT with 100% renewable electricity and delivering lower power bills. ACT households and businesses continue to have amongst the lowest cost and most reliable electricity supply in the country.

A re-elected ACT Labor Government will work to offer the first loans in the first quarter of 2021.
