A re-elected ACT Labor Government will build new local infrastructure, better roads and create more jobs as part of our plan for Gungahlin.
Labor will build on our record of investing in better transport for Gungahlin. We are the only party that can be trusted to extend light rail from Gungahlin to Woden, a project that will create 6,000 jobs in Canberra.
Delivering new community infrastructure is at the heart of our plan for Gungahlin. We will start the work on a new Gungahlin Community Centre, and we will build a multipurpose indoor facility at EPIC for large community performances and events.
We will provide more places at local public schools, with a new high school in Taylor, a primary school in North Gungahlin and expand capacity across existing schools. These new schools will be emissions free, and their construction will create hundreds of local jobs.
We will deliver better healthcare closer to home with a new North Gungahlin walk-in health centre, and expanded services at the existing Gungahlin Walk-in Centre. The Northside Elective Surgery Centre at the University of Canberra hospital campus will also support the growing Gungahlin community.
A re-elected ACT Labor Government will also invest in a sophisticated traffic model to identify future transport improvements in the Gungahlin region.
Labor will commit $1 million to undertake feasibility studies for the highest priority projects identified by the model, including duplication and upgrades to Gungahlin Drive, Clarrie Hermes, Horse Park Drive and Mirrabei Drive.
This work will include consideration of public transport priority and dedicated bus lanes as well as active travel upgrades.
A re-elected Labor Government will also deliver a $4 million fast-track road maintenance fund over the next 6 months to create local jobs. This will be a city-wide initiative as we head into a wet, La Nina, summer.
Labor’s Plan for Gungahlin also includes:
- Upgrades at local schools
- Duplication of the major road connecting Gungahlin & Belconnen
- A new Gungahlin Tennis Centre
- An upgraded playground at Ngunnawal
- A new dog park in Franklin
- Better sporting facilities
- Continued work on Throsby Home of Football
Canberrans in Gungahlin will also have access to ACT Labor’s sustainable and resilient households scheme, Labor’s food recycling scheme and one day a week of free early learning for three years olds.
The pandemic isn’t over, and there is more work to do. But ACT Labor has the right plan to invest in Canberrans and lead our city through the pandemic.
