ACT Labor’s plan is to provide better healthcare, where and when Canberrans need it.
Our doctors and nurses have been there when our city needed them, testing tens of thousands of Canberrans for COVID-19 and treating those who were infected by the virus.
Canberrans rely on our health system – and that’s why we will hire at least 400 new nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals if re-elected to provide more healthcare services as our city grows.
This will include more than 200 new nurses, and more than 150 clinical staff including specialists and registrars.
Many of the additional frontline staff will work in our bigger, better Canberra Hospital following the Canberra Hospital Expansion - the largest healthcare infrastructure project since self-government.
ACT Labor will also implement nurse/midwife to patient ratios, helping to improve patient outcomes and support our nurses and midwives to provide the best care possible.
Over the next seven days, ACT Labor will make more announcements about how we will support our health workers and our community with new health infrastructure and services.
This commitment will support our target of growing the ACT’s employment to 250,000 local jobs by 2025 as part of Canberra’s recovery from COVID-19.
A re-elected Labor Government will keep working every day to protect the health and livelihoods of our community.
In these uncertain times, ACT Labor has the right plan to support Canberra and protect local jobs.
